I Was Hungry and You Fed Me

Then shall the King say
Unto them
on his right hand,
Come,
ye blessed of my Father,
inherit the kingdom
prepared for you.
For I was hungry,
and you fed me
I was thirsty,
and you gave water
I was alone and in need
and you cared for me

Then shall the righteous answer,
Lord, when did we see you hungry
Or give you water to drink?
When did we see you in need,
Sick, or abandoned?

Some day
we will hear these words spoken
We will hang our head
Unworthy
to look upon our Savior
He’ll wipe away the tears
That we’ve shed

I was an orphan and you fed me
I was a widow and you gave water
I was poor and you heard my cry
I was an outcast and you gave your love

So many things call for our affection
So many ways to invest our lives
By living for ourselves, all is lost
By giving to others, our treasure survives

On that day we shall see
All those touched by our love
We will all join together
At the feet of God’s beloved Son

I was an orphan and you fed me
I was a widow and you gave water
I was poor and you heard my cry
I was an outcast and you gave your love

I will wait for you to join me
At Heaven’s Gate I will recline
And with all the others
To greet you when you arrive.

Enter in, says the Savior
To the joys that I have prepared
Well done, good and faithful servant
You lived a life that was shared

I was an orphan and you fed me
I was a widow and you gave water
I was poor and you heard my cry
I was an outcast and you gave your love
